WHILE shopping malls are a dime-a-dozen in the retail precincts of downtown Kuala Lumpur, none has been more honoured than Pavilion KL, which added three more international awards to its trophy cabinet. At a gala event at Langham Hotel in Hong Kong recently, the Asia Pacific Property Awards 2010 in association with Bloomberg Television acknowledged Pavilion KL’s achievements in the categories of Best Retail Development Malaysia; The Architecture Award (Retail) – Malaysia; and The Architecture Award (Retail) – Asia Pacific.
With the latter award – which the mall won by outclassing 21 entries across Asia Pacific – it will be competing against other winning entrants from Europe, the United Kingdom, Africa, the Americas and Arabia to be the world’s best.
According to Pavilion chief executive officer of retail Joyce Yap, the judging was based on criteria such as functionality, timelessness, ability to provide a sense of space as well as cater to business and consumer needs.
“It is a substantial recognition of our standing as a world class player in the global retail industry.
“People from all over including Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand come to Pavilion KL to study the mall and use it as a benchmark. There have been numerous requests for dialogues and organised tours.
“All this ties in well with our aim to become a landmark that the country can be proud of, as well as contribute to urban development and the community,” she said.
Pavilion KL, in operation for only two and a half years, has so far won a total of 13 national and international awards including the World’s Best Retail Centre title in the Retail Category of the Fiabci Prix d’Excellence Awards 2009.
Another Asia Pacific Property Awards 2010 winner is Naza TTDI Sdn Bhd for the commercial and residential categories. Its Laman Seri Business Park in Shah Alam, Selangor, secured The Best Office Development award and its The Valley TTDI in Ampang was named Best Architecture in the Multiple Units group.
Naza TTDI senior general manager Myrzela Sabtu, who was in Hong Kong to receive the awards, attributed their win to group managing director SM Faliq SM Nasimuddin’s drive in pioneering the pursuit for quality.
Laman Seri Business Park is an 8.3-acre landmark commercial centre comprising 46 units of four- and five-storey shop-offices and features a 37,000sq ft landscaped piazza while The Valley TTDI is an exclusive 134-bungalow development on 35.5 acres bordered by pristine forest reserve land.
