i-City’s first phase Cybercentre Office Suite 1 is ready for business.
The transformation of i-Berhad from a digital product-maker into a digital technology based property developer has culminated in the development of the 28.8ha i-City – a RM2 billion information and communications technology (ICT)-based commercial development in Shah Alam.
Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim says the state government has earmarked i-City as a technology hub to attract foreign direct investments.
i-City boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure such as super broadband with 20 mbps speed, dual sources of power supply and high performance integrated data centres that operate round the clock, making it an attractive location for international businesses. These technology infrastructure and facilities are intended to reduce operating costs for business owners by up to 33%.
Upon its full completion in 2015, this intelligent city with feature eight corporate towers, two luxury hotels, two blocks of 24-storey residences, three-and five-storey shop-offices, and retail suites. It will also house an one million sq ft shopping mall, and data and innovation centres.
The first phase of the development, comprising 300,000 sq ft of Cybercentre office suites, was completed in June last year and has today key tenants such as Logica and Unified Communication from Singapore. Kompakar, an ICT and data centre operator listed on Bursa Malaysia, will occupy a 50,000 sq ft Tier 4 Ready data centre.
i-City has been awarded both MSC Malaysia Cybercentre and Tourism Destination status has recently been given the ‘Unique and Innovative Property Development’ recognition by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.
In October last year, it was awarded International Park status by the Selangor government, which enables it to operate entertainment and lifestyle outlets such as cinemas and theaters, bowling alleys, family theme parks, restaurant and outdoor-activity centres.
Going forward, the project is expected to play central role in attracting foreign and local investors to Shah Alam. Part of this initiative is to develop and International Financial Centre for shared services.
To date, i-City has forged strategic alliances with leading global companies in the digital industry such as Intel and Cisco, as well as secured significant investments from international knowledge groups such as ServCorp of Australia and Al-Rajhi Banking Group of Saudi Arabia.
