The Malaysia Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) has launched its 10-point commitment to raise professionalism in order to improve its level of service to the general public.
Its president, K. Soma Sundram said the commitment was another step by MIEA to help its membership in moving forward to be united towards the cause of uplifting current practices.
“This programme is to promote the standards of practice and uphold the 10 values among members in their day-to-day practices,” he said.
Amongst the 10-point commitment are; being committed to professionalism, upholding integrity and maintaining ethical standards, being proactive with value add services, exposing illegal activities, and registering and certifying all negotiators.
“With the 10-point commitment to professionalism, we look forward to the enhancement of the professional standards among our members,” he added.
On Budget 2009, K. Soma said though it was not a property-friendly budget, the government has already done a lot in past years to improve the property sector.
According to him, the real estate sector is still doing well but due to the current political scenario, the number of transactions has dropped as both foreign and local investors are adopting a wait-and-see attitude.
“In that respect, transactions have come down but the sales are still going on. If the property market is on a downturn, it is always related directly to the economy. Our economy is still strong,” Soma said.
